The i-MoMCARE project is a collaborative effort between the NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, the University of Health Sciences, and the National Maternal and Child Health Center. Its goal is to provide digital tools to empower Village Health Support Groups and health center staff, improving the delivery of essential health services.
The i-MoMCARE mobile technology has the potential to improve the quality and accessibility of maternal and child health care in rural Cambodia, which could lead to significant improvements in health outcomes and quality of life for these communities.
In 2003, the Government of Cambodia launched the Village Health Support Groups (VHSGs) to strengthen primary healthcare, with a focus on maternal and child health (MCH) services. While these groups play a vital role in the community, they face several challenges that limit their effectiveness. These challenges include a lack of regular training, inconsistent support and supervision from local health centers (HCs).
To address these issues, i-MoMCARE is a digital health intervention designed to enhance the performance of VHSGs. The intervention will provide approximately 200 VHSGs with a mobile application to serve as a job aid and equip 20 HC staff with a web interface to improve the support and supervision of VHSGs.
This initiative aims to increase MCH service coverage in rural Cambodia, benefiting pregnant women, mothers, and children under two years old. The primary focus will be on composite MCH index, which will include key indicators such as maternal and newborn care, child immunization, and the treatment of children under two. Through this digital health intervention, VHSGs will be empowered with the tools and support they need to provide better care for their communities.
